Mountainuni is an innovator of the 1st successful Unicycle Disc Brake Retrofit System. We are an upstart small business with hopes for advancing braking technology for the growing popularity of big wheel unicycles. Back in 2009, Mountainuni's innovative group set out to build multiple sized prototype unicycles (24", 26", 29", 36") with an Outboard Disc system. As unicycle technology advances and speed increases, you need reliable, and stoppable drive train for your big wheel unicycle. We've innovated beyond the days of hydraulic piston rim brakes, and have fabricated/ produced a crank mounted disc which provides a superior braking system for Urban & Off Road unicyclists. We have also fabricated a mount that can be bolted to your existing frame to accept a standard hydraulic caliper. The brake kits can be applied to most of the quality unicycle brands and is compatible with both ISIS, and the older sqaure taper designs. (see FAQ's compatibility).
Our product consists of fabricating a steel rotor and applying to fixed crank / hub outboard system. the disc is affixed to a BMX style SINZ crank spider, and mounted to a standand ISIS interface hub, so the Rotor spins outside of the frame stanchions. The benefit of an outboard disc system is that it may be retrofitted to existing unicycles and does not require a frame specifically made for an internal disc system. The experience will be a smooth, predictable stopping modulation, and amazing braking power in wet or dry conditions. The majority of "braking" situations that occur while riding only requires a single finger pull to actively engage the brake. And since the braking surface originates closer to the hub, the grabbiness of a piston rim brake is virtually eliminated. Give your new gear some time with a break- in period. Usually after three or four rides engaging the brake regularly, everything wears in just right, and the pads get friendly with the rotor. Starting with your selection of titanium, aluminum, or steel frames, we will build your custom unicycle to your key anatomical inseam & height measurements. Further choices include the latest in unicycle technology from air saddles, carbon fiber seat bases and handles, Mountainuni disc brakes, Hydraulic calipers, 50mm+ wide Drilled Rims, Touring Bars -all built up around a beautiful KH ISIS Hub.
With the custom nature of what we provide, we must suggest the most realistic time expectations of up to 6 weeks to build your Unicycle. This could be necessary to give our component suppliers time to deliver, as Custom colors could require multiple vendors for us to fulfil and wheel builds do take time.
